No good from pride…

For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through the endurance taught in the Scriptures and the encouragement they provide we might have hope. Romans

Isaiah 13:1-8

  The oracle concerning Babylon which Isaiah the son of Amoz saw.

  On a bare hill raise a signal;

cry aloud to them;

wave the hand for them to enter

 the gates of the nobles.

  I myself have commanded

my consecrated ones,

and have summoned my mighty men

to execute my anger,

my proudly exulting ones.

 The sound of a tumult is on the mountains

as of a great multitude!

The sound of an uproar of kingdoms,

of nations gathering together!

The LORD of hosts is mustering

a host for battle.

  They come from a distant land,

 from the end of the heavens,

the LORD and the weapons of his indignation,

to destroy the whole land.

  Wail, for the day of the LORD is near;

as destruction from the Almighty

it will come!

 Therefore all hands will be feeble,

and every human heart will melt.

 They will be dismayed:

pangs and agony will seize them;

they will be in anguish like a woman in labor.

They will look aghast at one another;

their faces will be aflame.

This day of the Lord is not pleasant for it comes with judgment.  We should take note that the judging is done by God not any man, woman or child.  Can we get to a place where we no longer take offense at one another, but like Jesus with Peter, recognize we each are tools in the hands of the Almighty God and we serve His purpose?  Better to search and see what He is teaching us through others.  When we are the ones being used, better to just walk away and let the Spirit of the Lord complete the work than to try to become like God and understand the whys and wherefores.  Simply be willing workers for Him, obedient in all ways.  Those who will learn and grow will; those who choose to take offense have allowed pride to get in the way of the Spirit in their lives.  All the judgment we read of in scripture can be traced back to a prideful heart.  O may we learn humility, true humility that allows us to be taught and grow more like Jesus each day.
