From Numbers 16:

8Then Moshe (Moses) said to Korach (Korah), “Listen here, you sons of Levi! 9Is it for you a mere trifle that the God of Isra’el has separated you from the community of Isra’el to bring you close to himself, so that you can do the work in the tabernacle of Adonai and stand before the community serving them? 10He has brought you close and all your brothers the sons of Levi with you. Now you want the office of cohen (Priest) too! 11That’s why you and your group have gathered together against Adonai! After all, what is Aharon (Aaron) that you complain against him?”

12Then Moshe sent to summon Datan (Dathan) and Aviram  (Abiram), the sons of Eli’av  (Eliab). But they replied, “We won’t come up! 13Is it such a mere trifle, bringing us up from a land flowing with milk and honey to kill us in the desert, that now you arrogate to yourself the role of dictator over us? (ii) 14You haven’t at all brought us into a land flowing with milk and honey, and you haven’t put us in possession of fields and vineyards. Do you think you can gouge out these men’s eyes and blind them? We won’t come up!”

*words in parenthesis are English for the Hebrew placed by this author.

The heart of the matter is a grab for power.  It is couched in words of men’s reason. But God.  Truth is revealed to Moses:  “You want the office of priest.  That’s why you and yours have gathered against Adonai!” They made it appear to the assembly as if they were against Moses and Aaron for designating themselves as overseers of the assembly.  They made it look as if the wandering about in the wilderness was Moses’ and Aaron’s doing.  They questioned why they weren’t being taken into the land of milk and honey.  They accuse Moses and Aaron of attempting to keep control; have it their way.  Moses was able to see the truth of the matter.  Moses walked with God and because of this relationship saw beyond the men to the real enemy.  “You have gathered against Adonai!”  There is only one who defies God impudently and that is Satan the enemy of the human soul.  Truth will prevail.  Eyes are blinded, the people are manipulated by the lie.  “Did God say?”  continues to place doubt and cause division.

The political half of the rebellion refused to even come up when Moses called them.  Their arrogance is in full view of the people.  Their response to Moses clearly shows their intent to take authority from him.  They accuse him of blinding the assembly to truth when in fact it is they who do so.

These tactics continue today on so many levels.  Satan uses them to divide God’s people at every opportunity and those who are immature are taken in and deceived.  The assembly heard and were swayed by those rebelling.  None of these were open to instruction from God.  They were full of themselves and their ’cause,’ ideologies, thinking that is skewed away from God.  Unable to receive correction through Moses, they are left wide open to God’s judgment and correction.  Self has once again risen to take its place over God.  The move is subtle but can be heard by those whose ears are open to hear.

In this day, self-esteem led to self-awareness and now to self-identity.  Who do God’s people seek?  Their own identity or God’s?  A warning is being sounded, a caution.  The question: “Did God really say?” led to a lie.  ” He (God) knows that when you eat you will…”  And evil was revealed; was birthed in humanity. This deception continues today in the cloak of seeking identity.  Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, His righteousness is received and identity is revealed.  Then all these things will be added to you.  Matthew 6:33

Pray – Lord we have been given your Word both scripture and in Jesus.  May we heed what it says, apply it to our lives, our thinking and actions so we can build your kingdom, not one of our own making.

Repent – Lord, I’m sorry for the movement away from You.  Please open eyes and ears to see and hear from you.

Ask –  I join with you in asking that we be completely one and those outside the assembly of believers may realize who you are and who you sent.  I ask that your love be manifest in how we love one another.

Yes – Righteous Father, the world has not known you, but I have known you, and these people have known that you sent me.  I have made your name known to them, and I will continue to make it known; so that the love with which you have loved me may be in them, and I myself may be united with them. – Jesus.  I pray this with you, Lord, may it ever be You who is seen and glorified.

John 17:25-26

May I never be guilty of flattering you with my lips…may my heart be always yours, obvious in what I do and say…careful to follow your commands, to give you honor and respect.

The desire to deceive does not come from God.  The father of lies is the enemy of humanity’s souls.  Propaganda, fake news, false reporting all meant to manipulate come from one source, the father of lies.  There is truth in today’s world.  There is truth in this generation’s society; that is that most information spread about is made of lies intended to deceive.  There is truth today to combat the lie; this One sent from God is light and truth.  His coming is celebrated by some at this time; ignored by others through the ‘worship’ of material gain.  The lie is not greater; for “You, children, are from God and have overcome the false prophets, because he who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.

Fighting Deception…

From Ephesians:

We will then no longer be infants tossed about the waves and blown along by every wind of teaching, at the mercy of people clever in devising ways to deceive.  Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will  in every respect grow up into him who is the head, the Messiah.  Under his control, the whole body is being fitted and held together by the support of every joint, with each part working to fulfill its function; this is how the body grows and builds itself up in love.

Each believer has a given task and when they act in obedience they assist in building a strong fellowship.  This can be visualized as soldiers who position themselves arms locked together in a line and standing firm supported on all sides by comrades with a similar purpose under the leadership of Christ.  A line that cannot be broken.

Any teaching, any  new ‘wave’ that breaks up the line is not of God.  Instruction comes today as it did for Paul and the apostles through the scripture and personal experience that lines up with scripture.  These men all received instruction in scripture from an early age.  Jesus did as well.

It is a sign of maturity that one who is grounded in scripture will not be tossed about by every wave, every wind promising something new because they have been firmly planted in God’s teaching, God’s words.

Pray – Help me, God, to stand firm with the belt of truth buckled around my waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place and with my feet fitted with peace.  Also,  help me to take up the shield of faith, with which I can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.  Help me to put on the helmet of salvation and take up  the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God.  Help me to pray, in the Spirit, on all occasions, with all kinds of prayers and requests.  With this in mind, help me to be alert and always keep on praying for all the those you have placed in my path.

Repent – I repent for wasting time and energy being concerned about what may be the onslaught of deception instead of spreading the truth of your Word, sharing what is right. I repent for having my focus on the error rather than on righteousness.

Ask – Mighty God, Your Word clearly states that Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light.  Help me to be able to discern by your Spirit because his servants also masquerade as servants of righteousness. Guard the hearts and minds of your children against deception with the sure knowledge that even the evil one knows and uses your words.

Yes – Glorious God, I thank you for qualifying me to share in the inheritance of those in the kingdom of light.  For you have rescued me from the dominion of darkness and brought me into the kingdom of the Son You love, in whom I have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. Thank you for the continued growth and maturity available to all who search your word.

Learn from History; Avoid Deception…

For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through the endurance taught in the Scriptures and the encouragement they provide we might have hope. Romans
Comments, thoughts and reflections welcome

History repeats itself as anyone who has studied old documents can say.  It makes little difference if the present society tries to rewrite history; ample documentation is found among individual writings from the participants.

Therefore it is wise to heed the consequences of actions taken in the past to avoid repeating the errors.

From Micah: Here is what Adonai says in regard to the prophets who cause my people to go astray, who cry ‘peace,’ as soon as they are given food to eat but prepare war against anyone who fails to put something in their mouths:

Put in today’s setting, are there those who cause God’s people to go astray, used by the enemy to deceive?  Any ‘word’ given that emphasizes self-worth or ability has the potential to lead away from God’s worth and ability.  Are our prophets fed well?  Do they prophesy for pay?  Do they ‘war’ by finding fault, causing strife with any who fail to ‘pay’ or do they engage in fear mongering?

In Micah it states further how God views these actions.  A good Father disciplines and corrects:

“Therefore you will have night, not vision, darkness and not divination; the sun will go down on the prophets, over them the day will be black.”

Discipline and correction is not pleasant.

“The seers will be put to shame,

The diviners will be disgraced.

They will have to cover their mouths,

Because there will be no answer from God.

On the other hand, I am full of power

By Spirit of Adonai,

Full of justice and full of might,

To declare to __________his crime,

To _____his sin.

Hear this, please, leaders of _________,

Rulers of the house of _____________,

You abhor what is just

And pervert anything that is right,

Who build up _____________with blood

And ______with wickedness.

Her leaders will sell verdicts for bribes,

Her priests teach for a price,

Her prophets divine for money—-

Yet they claim to rely on Adonai!

“Isn’t Adonai here with us?”  they say.

“No evil can come upon us.”

Therefore, because of you,

______ will be plowed under like a forested height…

There is more, much more in Micah to learn from, to take warning from, to heed the direction given and to rejoice in the promise given.

The blanks can be filled in with current names.  See if they fit and speak truthfully.  This was spoken to another people at another time but could have been saved for today.  It is wisdom to use what has been shared to judge whether anything be of God.  Do not be deceived by pretty pictures, great music, etc. For the enemy is clothed in light that is deceptive.

Pray – With all prayer and petition (I) pray at all times, 1. in the Spirit, 2. and with this in view, 3. be on the alert, with 4. all perseverance and 5. petition for all the saints, 6. and pray on my behalf.  I pray for our spiritual leaders.

Repent – I repent for selfish prayer and now ask for mercy.  I repent for not lifting up and encouraging God’s called leaders and now ask Your blessings on them.

Ask – I pray they be alert, they persevere, they pray for all saints, they stay close to God’s Word and not be deceived or used by the enemy to destroy God’s people.

Yes – I thank You for Your Word that quickens, guides, feeds, and blesses Your people.

Amos 8:11 and Matthew 5:17-20

[Amos 8:11 KJV] 11 Behold, the days come, saith the Lord GOD, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the LORD:

[Matthew 5:17-20 NKJV] 17 “Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill. 18 “For assuredly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled. 19 “Whoever therefore breaks one of the least of these commandments, and teaches men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever does and teaches [them], he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. 20 “For I say to you, that unless your righteousness exceeds [the righteousness] of the scribes and Pharisees, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven.

The move in the present day away from Scripture makes room for a worldview that is secular based rather than Bible based. It allows for a lack of knowledge of who God is and what He does. That lack is filled with humanity’s creation of a god in their image rather than acknowledgement of a God who created humanity in His image. The difference colors the manner in which humanity views itself. This move makes room for deception.

There is a famine of the Word in a place where its availability abounds. There is lack of honor and respect for it that is replaced with honor and respect of men and women and their words thus leading to deception. The deception occurs when Scripture is referenced but not taught, when an individual’s teaching is based upon their ‘good’ character or ‘spiritual’ character which may or may not be genuine. The move from the source, Scripture, God’s Word, to humanity’s interpretations leads to deception. Divisions occur because emphasis is placed upon men’s thoughts and interpretations rather than the actual Word of God. It was Jesus who said: ” assuredly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled.” Neither heaven nor earth have yet passed away. Jesus was referencing the Torah and Prophets, the old testament.

The Word is still the standard, not a standard based upon humanity’s interpretations. As the world standard sinks to a standard that celebrates the self, the church maintains a distance but remains attached so that it also begins to sink into a similar standard that celebrates the self. ( Note how many ‘worship’ songs are all about me and my relationship with Him, not about Him and His relationship with me, or about Him and who He is period.) The changes in the church, the body of Christ, are such that it begins to resemble humanity and not Christ…

The famine of scriptural accuracy, of scriptural honor, of scriptural knowledge has made room for wrong doctrines, shifting with the rest of humanity to a “me” vision of life rather than a “Christ” vision of life. There is a need to return to Biblical accuracy, study of the Word itself.  This study brings knowledge of the author, God.  It brings knowledge of who the believer is in Him.  It changes everything and enhances life.  Take on the day?  Take on the Word of God!!

Ezra 10:16-44

Then the returned exiles did so. Ezra the priest selected men, heads of fathers’ houses, according to their fathers’ houses, each of them designated by name. On the first day of the tenth month they sat down to examine the matter;  and by the first day of the first month they had come to the end of all the men who had married foreign women.

Now there were found some of the sons of the priests who had married foreign women: Maaseiah, Eliezer, Jarib, and Gedaliah, some of the sons of Jeshua the son of Jozadak and his brothers.  They pledged themselves to put away their wives, and their guilt offering was a ram of the flock for their guilt.   Of the sons of Immer: Hanani and Zebadiah.   Of the sons of Harim: Maaseiah, Elijah, Shemaiah, Jehiel, and Uzziah.  Of the sons of Pashhur: Elioenai, Maaseiah, Ishmael, Nethanel, Jozabad, and Elasah.

Of the Levites: Jozabad, Shimei, Kelaiah (that is, Kelita), Pethahiah, Judah, and Eliezer.  Of the singers: Eliashib. Of the gatekeepers: Shallum, Telem, and Uri.

And of Israel: of the sons of Parosh: Ramiah, Izziah, Malchijah, Mijamin, Eleazar, Hashabiah, and Benaiah.  Of the sons of Elam: Mattaniah, Zechariah, Jehiel, Abdi, Jeremoth, and Elijah.   Of the sons of Zattu: Elioenai, Eliashib, Mattaniah, Jeremoth, Zabad, and Aziza.   Of the sons of Bebai were Jehohanan, Hananiah, Zabbai, and Athlai.  Of the sons of Bani were Meshullam, Malluch, Adaiah, Jashub, Sheal, and Jeremoth.   Of the sons of Pahath-moab: Adna, Chelal, Benaiah, Maaseiah, Mattaniah, Bezalel, Binnui, and Manasseh.   Of the sons of Harim: Eliezer, Isshijah, Malchijah, Shemaiah, Shimeon,  Benjamin, Malluch, and Shemariah.  Of the sons of Hashum: Mattenai, Mattattah, Zabad, Eliphelet, Jeremai, Manasseh, and Shimei.   Of the sons of Bani: Maadai, Amram, Uel, Benaiah, Bedeiah, Cheluhi,   Vaniah, Meremoth, Eliashib,   Mattaniah, Mattenai, Jaasu.  Of the sons of Binnui: Shimei, Shelemiah, Nathan, Adaiah,  Machnadebai, Shashai, Sharai,  Azarel, Shelemiah, Shemariah, Shallum, Amariah, and Joseph.   Of the sons of Nebo: Jeiel, Mattithiah, Zabad, Zebina, Jaddai, Joel, and Benaiah.

All these had married foreign women, and some of the women had even borne children.

There is a place in scriptures that talks of the sins of the fathers affecting the children.  What a hard place to be!  However, history shows how this intimate relationship among God’s people time and again eroded their relationship with God.  It brought judgment, pain, and destruction.  Can we learn from the past?  We cannot have intimate relationships with that which God has commanded abstinence from;  whatever it may be.  Can we  see that it is for our own protection and the protection of our relationship with Him?  Our relationship with God is paramount.  Knowledge is the key.  Did these men not know scripture?  We have free access to God’s Word; we can know truth and what is righteous.  They had it available and disobeyed.  It caused them pain to make their relationship with God right.  Let us not be caught in the same web of deception!

True vision or deception?

John 9:35-41

Jesus heard that they had cast him out; and when He had found him, He said to him, “Do you believe in the Son of God?”

He answered and said, “Who is He, Lord, that I may believe in Him?”

And Jesus said to him, “You have both seen Him and it is He who is talking with you.”

Then he said, “Lord, I believe!” And he worshiped Him.

And Jesus said, “For judgment I have come into this world, that those who do not see may see, and that those who see may be made blind.”

Then some of the Pharisees who were with Him heard these words, and said to Him, “Are we blind also?”

Jesus said to them, “If you were blind, you would have no sin; but now you say, ‘We see.’ Therefore your sin remains.

For judgment I have come…that those who do not see may see and those who see may be made blind…true vision.  Christ gives true vision.  Steeped in mankind’s explanations of the world around us, we form our opinions and then hold to them tenaciously, bound by the cords of self, blinded by the tunnel-vision that closes us to receiving from the one who created us and wants a renewed fellowship with us.  With Christ’s coming, the light of the Word now exposes the fallacies in mankind’s ideologies and brings true vision of a right relationship between Creator and creation.  And so the blind now see, for the blind are not bound by humankind’s limited vision; and the ones who say they see are blinded by the light of God’s Word and refuse the true vision brought by His Son.

Jesus returned to find the man who was blind.  This one had never seen Jesus with his physical eyes, he was still blind when sent to wash.  And now Jesus puts the question to him that shows clearly the opening of his spiritual eyes that came from the questioning process he had been subjected to.  Jesus asks, “Do you believe in the Son of God?” He then reveals himself to the man who had been blind and that one worships him.  To see Jesus physically was not necessary to see him spiritually.  We see with our heart, mind and soul.  We love God with our heart, mind and soul.

When we say we see that we are not blind, we become responsible for our relationship with God.  Do we accept or reject?  If we can see in our spirit the truth, if we possess true vision, do we acknowledge and worship the Son of God or do we deny his Lordship and then become guilty of rejection.  The man who was blind acknowledged the one who opened his eyes and worshiped him, those who claimed vision denied him.  Christ’s judgment then rested upon those claiming to see not for their claim to see but for their rejection of him.  Give us true vision, sight that depends upon the spiritual awareness a relationship with the Lord brings.

Who made you the judge?

Mark 14:54-65

They took Jesus to the high priest’s home where the leading priests, the elders, and the teachers of religious law had gathered. Meanwhile, Peter followed him at a distance and went right into the high priest’s courtyard. There he sat with the guards, warming himself by the fire.

Inside, the leading priests and the entire high council were trying to find evidence against Jesus, so they could put him to death. But they couldn’t find any. Many false witnesses spoke against him, but they contradicted each other.  Finally, some men stood up and gave this false testimony: “We heard him say, ‘I will destroy this Temple made with human hands, and in three days I will build another, made without human hands.’” But even then they didn’t get their stories straight!

Then the high priest stood up before the others and asked Jesus, “Well, aren’t you going to answer these charges? What do you have to say for yourself?” But Jesus was silent and made no reply. Then the high priest asked him, “Are you the Messiah, the Son of the Blessed One?”

Jesus said, “I AM. And you will see the Son of Man seated in the place of power at God’s right hand  and coming on the clouds of heaven.  ”

Then the high priest tore his clothing to show his horror and said, “Why do we need other witnesses? You have all heard his blasphemy. What is your verdict?”

“Guilty!” they all cried. “He deserves to die!”

Then some of them began to spit at him, and they blindfolded him and beat him with their fists. “Prophesy to us,” they jeered. And the guards slapped him as they took him away.

How is it that Jesus’ statement that He is the Messiah is judged blasphemous?  How did they expect to know who the Messiah is?  What gave them the ability to be the only ones able to determine who the Messiah would be?  Jesus did not answer the accusations…he did answer the direct question.  For that answer He was judged blasphemous and guilty of death?  Who gave them the authority to judge if God was God?  They took it upon themselves…

Mankind continually steps into that place of judging another as if they have that right.  Where is the source of authority?  Who grants it?  What makes us think we have that right?  Are there any among us that are pure, holy, righteous; not guilty of any wrong?  Jesus went about doing good…he spoke against injustice and for that he drew the attention of those who wanted him silenced.

Power is a deceiver and addictive.  Real or not, even when perceived, it  allows for actions that many times are destructive.  In contrast, the power granted and used by the Holy One produces good.  Let’s tap into that power through the recognition of who He is, what He does, who he says we are.  Let’s pray and produce good; defeat evil.  2 Chronicles 7:14  “If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves  and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and restore their land.

The sign of the vultures…

Matthew 24: 26-31

So if someone tells you, ‘Look, the Messiah is out in the desert,’ don’t bother to go and look. Or, ‘Look, he is hiding here,’ don’t believe it!27For as the lightning flashes in the east and shines to the west, so it will be when the Son of Man comes.  28Just as the gathering of vultures shows there is a carcass nearby, so these signs indicate that the end is near.

29Immediately after the anguish of those days,

the sun will be darkened,

the moon will give no light,

the stars will fall from the sky,

and the powers in the heavens will be shaken

30And then at last, the sign that the Son of Man is coming will appear in the heavens, and there will be deep mourning among all the peoples of the earth. And they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. 31And he will send out his angels with the mighty blast of a trumpet, and they will gather his chosen ones from all over the world—from the farthest ends of the earth and heaven. – NLT

So if anyone tells you, ‘There he is, out in the desert,’ do not go out; or, ‘Here he is, in the inner rooms,’ do not believe it. Jesus states His return will be as obvious as vultures circling identify the location of the carcass.  Jesus’ return will be obvious, not hidden. It will be seen by all and that is significant.  Many have already been deceived by the claims of enticing leaders, some to the extreme of actually “going to the desert” and have suffered for it.  When Christ gives a warning it is wise to heed it.

If we are spending time in the Word, reading and asking the Holy Spirit to give us understanding, we will not be victims of some enticing leader saying things that fascinate and draw a crowd.  If we continually hold everything that is passed for something ‘new” to the light of the Scriptures, individually, we will see the truth and we won’t need someone to ‘warn’ us or advise us as to what the truth is.  Be mature enough to be seeking for that truth ourselves.  Be strong enough in our faith to gain understanding through the Holy Spirit’s presence within us.  Trust God for knowledge, as Proverbs plainly tells us, The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge

We are clearly told not to go after; follow those who make such a claim.  No claim will need to be made, it will be obvious it is Christ returning.  We won’t need to seek him in a desert or hidden in an inner room.  The sun, moon, other heavenly bodies will all lead the way to know his return is imminent.  It could be seen as a frightening time, death, destruction, then the sun blocked and darkened as well as the moon, stars falling, shaken…doesn’t sound like fun stuff but for the elect it ironically could be cause to rejoice.

Jesus is telling us we do not need to fear, there will be no doubt…no fear… for his elect!!

Much is said about this today, stay immersed in His Word.  Be clear on what Christ says.
