Read James 3 and that led to II Corinthians 12:20
For I fear lest, when I come, I shall not find you such as I wish, and [that] I shall be found by you such as you do not wish; lest [there be] contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, backbitings, whisperings, conceits, tumults;
and II Corinthians 12:21
lest, when I come again, my God will humble me among you, and I shall mourn for many who have sinned before and have not repented of the uncleanness, fornication, and lewdness which they have practiced.
and the vision that came to me from the word ‘humble’ was a body bent over in grief. The Corinthians, some of them, found salvation but then treated it as they treated other gods before Jesus. As that section of their life not as their whole life, it was not a life-changing force, just a switch from Greek gods to Judaic God. Salvation never made it to the heart. We see that today, some receive salvation and it becomes their ‘belief system.’ Life goes on as before with no change because it (salvation) was not embraced as a life-changing event.
They do not develop a hunger for more of God’s Word and more of Him but are satisfied with the event of salvation, or acceptance of Christ, a belief. They are the seeds in shallow soil, no food, no growth, just a sprout. They become involved in church with ritual or form and relegate God to a portion of their life, feeling safe.
