…if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14 (New King James Version)
More from Mere Christianity, C.S. Lewis – “We all want progress. But progress means getting nearer to the place where you want to be. And if you have taken a wrong turning, then to go forward does not get you any nearer. If you are on the wrong road, progress means doing an about-turn and walking back to the right road: and in that case the man who turns back soonest is the most progressive man. ”
Novel thought: returning to the ancient one?
There’s more: “There is nothing progressive about being pig-headed and refusing to admit a mistake. And I think if you look at the present state of the world, it is pretty plain that humanity has been making some big mistake. We are on the wrong road. And if that is so, we must go back. Going back is the quickest way on.”
…my people, my God-defined people, respond by humbling themselves, praying, seeking my presence, and turning their backs on their wicked lives, I’ll be there ready for you: I’ll listen from heaven, forgive their sins, and restore their land to health. 2 Chronicles 7:14 (the Message)
Are we on the wrong road? Read the stream of comments following any news article and it becomes plain. What to do? God states we need to humble ourselves, that’s one, pray, that’s two, seek His face, that’s three, and finally, turn our backs on our wicked lives, that’s four. His response? He will be there, that’s one, listen, that’s two, forgive our sins, that’s three, and finally, heal our land, that’s four.
