Reaping the whirlwind…

For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through the endurance taught in the Scriptures and the encouragement they provide we might have hope. Romans

Comments, thoughts and reflections welcome.

Hosea 8

“Set the trumpet  to your mouth!

He shall come like an eagle against the house of the LORD,

Because they have transgressed My covenant

And rebelled against My law.

Israel will cry to Me,

‘My God, we know You!’

 Israel has rejected the good;

The enemy will pursue him.

“They set up kings, but not by Me;

They made princes, but I did not acknowledge them.

From their silver and gold

They made idols for themselves—

That they might be cut off.

Your calf is rejected, O Samaria!

My anger is aroused against them—

How long until they attain to innocence?

For from Israel is even this:

A workman made it, and it is not God;

But the calf of Samaria shall be broken to pieces.

“They sow the wind,

And reap the whirlwind.

The stalk has no bud;

It shall never produce meal.

If it should produce,

Aliens would swallow it up.

Israel is swallowed up;

Now they are among the Gentiles

Like a vessel in which is no pleasure.

For they have gone up to Assyria,

Like a wild donkey alone by itself;

Ephraim has hired lovers.

 Yes, though they have hired among the nations,

Now I will gather them;

And they shall sorrow a little,

Because of the burden of the king of princes.

 “Because Ephraim has made many altars for sin,

They have become for him altars for sinning.

 I have written for him the great things of My law,

But they were considered a strange thing.

For the sacrifices of My offerings they sacrifice flesh and eat it,

But the LORD does not accept them.

Now He will remember their iniquity and punish their sins.

They shall return to Egypt.

“For Israel has forgotten his Maker,

And has built temples;

Judah also has multiplied fortified cities;

But I will send fire upon his cities,

And it shall devour his palaces.”

Humanity continually strays from their maker.  We place our trust in humanity only to find they are not as strong, or loving, or resourceful as we thought.  Time after time we are hurt, damaged, disappointed and time after time we then seek the face of God.  We ask where is God?  or; How could God allow this…? And all that time it is us, ourselves.  We have sown the wind and are reaping the whirlwind.

“…“They sow the wind,

And reap the whirlwind….”

Reaping the Whirlwind from God’s Daily Word

“…The stalk has no bud;

It shall never produce meal.

If it should produce,

Aliens would swallow it up…”

Failing crops from Earthy Report

Failing crops from Earthy Report

This does not have to be! We ask God where He is when we are the ones who have left Him!  It is time to seek Him, to learn of Him.  It is time to taste the completeness of life in Him.  Jesus’ birth is remembered and that is good.  Better yet to receive, personally, the gift of life that was given on the cross and through the empty tomb!

Finishing the work…

John 4:27-38

 And at this point His disciples came, and they marveled that He talked with a woman; yet no one said, “What do You seek?” or, “Why are You talking with her?”

The woman then left her water pot, went her way into the city, and said to the men,  “Come, see a Man who told me all things that I ever did. Could this be the Christ?” Then they went out of the city and came to Him.

 In the meantime His disciples urged Him, saying, “Rabbi, eat.”

 But He said to them, “I have food to eat of which you do not know.”

 Therefore the disciples said to one another, “Has anyone brought Him anything to eat?”

 Jesus said to them, “My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me, and to finish His work.  Do you not say, ‘There are still four months and then comes the harvest’? Behold, I say to you, lift up your eyes and look at the fields, for they are already white for harvest!  And he who reaps receives wages, and gathers fruit for eternal life, that both he who sows and he who reaps may rejoice together.  For in this the saying is true: ‘One sows and another reaps.’ I sent you to reap that for which you have not labored; others have labored, and you have entered into their labors.”

“My food is to do the will of him who sent me and to finish his work.”  Later, on the cross he said, “It is finished.”  He was promised, he came, he told of the way to God for us all, he paid for our sins by giving his life, he rose again to conquer death for us and he sent the Holy Spirit to help us all on our life’s walk here.  God’s gift to mankind went beyond creation to redemption and on to keep us in a relationship with him to eternal life with him, not apart from him.

And now we share, sow, and continue to reap the harvest.  Of all the ones who could have spread God’s Word to this town, it was a woman of ill-repute who went into town to bring others to Christ.  The amazing part of that is they listened to her and responded.  Another example of one despised bringing salvation to others – God’s ways are not our ways, for sure!!
