Peace, rest and singing…

Isaiah 14:1-8

 For the LORD will have compassion on Jacob and will again choose Israel, and will set them in their own land, and sojourners will join them and will attach themselves to the house of Jacob.

  And the peoples will take them and bring them to their place, and the house of Israel will possess them in the LORD’s land as male and female slaves. They will take captive those who were their captors, and rule over those who oppressed them.

  When the LORD has given you rest from your pain and turmoil and the hard service with which you were made to serve,

  you will take up this taunt against the king of Babylon:

“How the oppressor has ceased,

the insolent fury ceased!

  The LORD has broken the staff of the wicked,

the scepter of rulers,

 that struck the peoples in wrath

with unceasing blows,

that ruled the nations in anger

with unrelenting persecution.

 The whole earth is at rest and quiet;

they break forth into singing.

 The cypresses rejoice at you,

the cedars of Lebanon, saying,

‘Since you were laid low,

 no woodcutter comes up against us.’

There is peace, rest and singing when oppression ceases.

There is peace, rest and singing when a sin-oppressed soul is set free.

There is peace, rest and singing when Christ enters our life.

Peace, rest, and singing follow those who trust in the Lord.

“… The whole earth is at rest and quiet;

they break forth into singing….”

 Psalm  3

LORD, how they have increased who trouble me!

Many are they who rise up against me.

Many are they who say of me,

“There is no help for him in God.” Selah

 But You, O LORD, are a shield for me,

My glory and the One who lifts up my head.

 I cried to the LORD with my voice,

And He heard me from His holy hill. Selah

 I lay down and slept;

I awoke, for the LORD sustained me.

 I will not be afraid of ten thousands of people

Who have set themselves against me all around.

Arise, O LORD;

Save me, O my God!

For You have struck all my enemies on the cheekbone;

You have broken the teeth of the ungodly.

 Salvation belongs to the LORD.

Your blessing is upon Your people. Selah

True believers of the message of the cross, true believers who have received the knowledge of God-given through Jesus, true believers have enemies.  They also can say these words in truth with the psalmist.  Note that the request made of God is one that will close the mouths, the voices of the unbeliever who scorns, mocks, and denies the very existence of God.

“…For You have struck all my enemies on the cheekbone;

You have broken the teeth of the ungodly….”

Note also, those saying these words sleep in peace and trust in the Lord to hear and deliver.

“… I lay down and slept;

I awoke, for the LORD sustained me….”

sleep of peace

sleep of peace

Salvation belongs to the LORD.

Your blessing is upon Your people.

Resting in the Lord’s time…

Daniel 8:15-27

Then it happened, when I, Daniel, had seen the vision and was seeking the meaning, that suddenly there stood before me one having the appearance of a man. And I heard a man’s voice between the banks of the Ulai, who called, and said, “Gabriel, make this man understand the vision.” So he came near where I stood, and when he came I was afraid and fell on my face; but he said to me, “Understand, son of man, that the vision refers to the time of the end.”

Now, as he was speaking with me, I was in a deep sleep with my face to the ground; but he touched me, and stood me upright.  And he said, “Look, I am making known to you what shall happen in the latter time of the indignation; for at the appointed time the end shall be.  The ram which you saw, having the two horns—they are the kings of Media and Persia.  And the male goat is the kingdom  of Greece. The large horn that is between its eyes is the first king.  As for the broken horn and the four that stood up in its place, four kingdoms shall arise out of that nation, but not with its power.

 “And in the latter time of their kingdom,

When the transgressors have reached their fullness,

A king shall arise,

Having fierce features,

Who understands sinister schemes.

His power shall be mighty, but not by his own power;

He shall destroy fearfully,

And shall prosper and thrive;

He shall destroy the mighty, and also the holy people.

 “Through his cunning

He shall cause deceit to prosper under his rule;

And he shall exalt himself in his heart.

He shall destroy many in their prosperity.

He shall even rise against the Prince of princes;

But he shall be broken without human means.

 “And the vision of the evenings and mornings

Which was told is true;

Therefore seal up the vision,

For it refers to many days in the future.”

And I, Daniel, fainted and was sick for days; afterward I arose and went about the king’s business. I was astonished by the vision, but no one understood it.

And today we still have many who try to understand or claim to possess what wasn’t given to Daniel.  What was the purpose of the vision and why was it given?  What time of end?  There are many endings?  What comes to mind is the scripture my thoughts are above your thoughts and yet we receive the mind of Christ and are renewed by it.

“…Isa 55:9 KJV – For [as] the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.”

“…1Cr 2:16 NKJV – For “who has known the mind of the LORD that he may instruct Him?” But we have the mind of Christ.

We cannot presume to know with the ability to instruct the Lord God, but we may know with understanding that comes from the Holy Spirit and assists us in our walk with Him.

Again we have a point at which to stop and reflect, meditate upon his word.  Ask for wisdom and understanding; it may be unique to each individual believer.  There is a temptation to be “the one” who receives full understanding.

“seal up the vision…”

Sometimes it is wise to wait upon the Lord; place our full trust in Him for He has the big picture.

Limited explanation was given pertaining to  kings of the Medes and Persians.  And the king of Greece and what was to transpire there was given.  But after that no clear explanation.  It is interesting to note the effect of this vision upon Daniel.  It troubled him at first; it also drained him physically.  But then, he got up and went back to work.  He recognized its significance, that he was chosen to receive from the Lord, but he was also told to seal it up.  Sometimes what we are given from the Lord is for our keeping rather than our sharing.  Lord may we live so close to you that we will know when to share and when to seal it up.  There is much noise out in our world space about prophecy  and many who claim to ‘know’… and much of it is just that, noise.  It leads to confusion.  Confusion is not of God.  One of the characteristics we are learning to see in Him is that of order.  To everything there is a purpose, time and place.  Blessed be the name of the Lord.

Rest not wrath…

Ezekiel 20:30-38

30 Therefore say to the house of Israel, ‘Thus says the Lord GOD: “Are you defiling yourselves in the manner of your fathers, and committing harlotry according to their abominations? 31 For when you offer your gifts and make your sons pass through the fire, you defile yourselves with all your idols, even to this day. So shall I be inquired of by you, O house of Israel? As I live,” says the Lord GOD, “I will not be inquired of by you. 32 What you have in your mind shall never be, when you say, ‘We will be like the Gentiles, like the families in other countries, serving wood and stone.’

33 “As I live,” says the Lord GOD, “surely with a mighty hand, with an outstretched arm, and with fury poured out, I will rule over you. 34 I will bring you out from the peoples and gather you out of the countries where you are scattered, with a mighty hand, with an outstretched arm, and with fury poured out. 35 And I will bring you into the wilderness of the peoples, and there I will plead My case with you face to face. 36 Just as I pleaded My case with your fathers in the wilderness of the land of Egypt, so I will plead My case with you,” says the Lord GOD.

37 “I will make you pass under the rod, and I will bring you into the bond of the covenant; 38 I will purge the rebels from among you, and those who transgress against Me; I will bring them out of the country where they dwell, but they shall not enter the land of Israel. Then you will know that I am the LORD.

“the sacrifice of your sons in the fire.”

This seems to connect to present day death of the unborn , sacrificed so the parent can continue their lifestyle unhindered.  It shows a strong sense of self; self-love, self-desire, self-guidance.  God calls it defiling self in worship to idols.  The search for personal happiness, success, pride at the expense of others is so anti-God.

“We want to be like the nations, like the peoples of the world…”

Much like the statement children would use.  There is no thought of consequences.  There is no consideration for others or the love of God.  The result of these actions is to bring the wrath of a holy God.

“I will purge you of those who revolt and rebel against me.”

Strong words to take note of.  Do we know enough of the nature of God and the Words he has spoken to consider our own actions and words?  Are we witnesses of his love, toward us and others?  O to be sure, we are in the stress-free life of resting in his love and care rather than under his wrath.  When we walk with the Lord in the light of his word…We find peace not judgment, rest not wrath, joy not sorrow – a peace, rest, and joy the unbelieving world cannot know and we cannot explain.  But it is there…

“Then you will know that I am the Lord.”
