Isaiah 28:23-29

Give ear, and hear my voice; give attention, and hear my speech.

Does he who plows for sowing plow continually? Does he continually open and harrow his ground?

When he has leveled its surface, does he not scatter dill, sow cumin, and put in wheat in rows and barley in its proper place, and emmer as the border?

For he is rightly instructed; his God teaches him.

Dill is not threshed with a threshing sledge, nor is a cart wheel rolled over cumin, but dill is beaten out with a stick, and cumin with a rod.

Does one crush grain for bread? No, he does not thresh it forever; when he drives his cart wheel over it with his horses, he does not crush it.

This also comes from the LORD of hosts; he is wonderful in counsel and excellent in wisdom.

There is a process to be followed.  There are time limits.

“…  Does he who plows for sowing plow continually?…”

There are specific methods.

“…  does he not scatter dill, sow cumin, and put in wheat in rows …”

There are item sensitive manners of processing.

“…but dill is beaten out with a stick, and cumin with a rod. …”

There is a knowledge and will that comes from God.

“… he is rightly instructed; his God teaches him. …”

Humanity is unique, individual in needs and characteristics.  One size does not fit all and one way does not reach all.  As we temper and form our ways when planting and harvesting different crops meant for different purposes, so then when we prepare, plant and harvest for the kingdom of God in spirit, we seek His counsel and His wisdom.

“…  This also comes from the LORD of hosts; he is wonderful in counsel and excellent in wisdom. …”

As we walk through our days, we seek His counsel, His wisdom.  We share as is appropriate to the individual crossing our path.  One-size-does-not-fit-all.

Isaiah 18

Ah, land of whirring wings that is beyond the rivers of Cush,

which sends ambassadors by the sea,

in vessels of papyrus on the waters!

Go, you swift messengers,

to a nation tall and smooth,

to a people feared near and far,

a nation mighty and conquering,

whose land the rivers divide.

All you inhabitants of the world,

you who dwell on the earth,

when a signal is raised on the mountains, look

When a trumpet is blown, hear!

For thus the LORD said to me:

“I will quietly look from my dwelling

like clear heat in sunshine,

like a cloud of dew in the heat of harvest.”

For before the harvest, when the blossom is over,

and the flower becomes a ripening grape,

he cuts off the shoots with pruning hooks,

and the spreading branches he lops off and clears away.

They shall all of them be left

to the birds of prey of the mountains

and to the beasts of the earth.

And the birds of prey will summer on them,

and all the beasts of the earth will winter on them.

At that time tribute will be brought to the LORD of hosts

from a people tall and smooth,

from a people feared near and far,

a nation mighty and conquering,

whose land the rivers divide,

to Mount Zion, the place of the name of the LORD of hosts

“…when a signal is raised on the mountains, look

When a trumpet is blown, hear! …”

The Lord warns, the Lord speaks.  Are we alert to his voice? Do we hear his message?  Can we see the signs of warning?  His word is filled with plenty of stories, tales, and poetry.  They tell us how to live, what life is, and how to enjoy this gift of life.  They advise what to embrace and what to avoid.  Hear the ‘trumpet’ and see the ‘signal.’  We are loved and not forgotten.

Commissioned…

Acts 22:11-21

And since I could not see for the glory of that light, being led by the hand of those who were with me, I came into Damascus.

“Then a certain Ananias, a devout man according to the law, having a good testimony with all the Jews who dwelt there,  came to me; and he stood and said to me, ‘Brother Saul, receive your sight.’ And at that same hour I looked up at him. Then he said, ‘The God of our fathers has chosen you that you should know His will, and see the Just One, and hear the voice of His mouth.  For you will be His witness to all men of what you have seen and heard.  And now why are you waiting? Arise and be baptized, and wash away your sins, calling on the name of the Lord.’

“Now it happened, when I returned to Jerusalem and was praying in the temple, that I was in a trance and saw Him saying to me, ‘Make haste and get out of Jerusalem quickly, for they will not receive your testimony concerning Me.’ So I said, ‘Lord, they know that in every synagogue I imprisoned and beat those who believe on You.  And when the blood of Your martyr Stephen was shed, I also was standing by consenting to his death, and guarding the clothes of those who were killing him.’ Then He said to me, ‘Depart, for I will send you far from here to the Gentiles.’”

Paul received his assignment and was faithful to complete it.  God has his chosen ones, to do his will, and we are to be a witness to all of what we have seen and heard.  We are commissioned to share what we receive with those who will listen.  God has his chosen who need to hear what he has for them.  It is not his will that any should perish, it is our responsibility to share the word for how can they receive if they cannot hear it.  We who receive are his messengers, messengers not of what we were but of what he can do, the change and love he can bring into their lives.

Do we hear, do we see…?

Mark 8:14-21

But the disciples had forgotten to bring any food. They had only one loaf of bread with them in the boat.  As they were crossing the lake, Jesus warned them, “Watch out! Beware of the yeast of the Pharisees and of Herod.”

At this they began to argue with each other because they hadn’t brought any bread. Jesus knew what they were saying, so he said, “Why are you arguing about having no bread? Don’t you know or understand even yet? Are your hearts too hard to take it in? ‘You have eyes—can’t you see? You have ears—can’t you hear?’  Don’t you remember anything at all? When I fed the 5,000 with five loaves of bread, how many baskets of leftovers did you pick up afterward?”

“Twelve,” they said.

And when I fed the 4,000 with seven loaves, how many large baskets of leftovers did you pick up?”

“Seven,” they said. “Don’t you understand yet?” he asked them.

Do we have eyes and not see?  Ears and not hear?  Do we not understand?  Yeast has the capability to grow and spread.  Beware, we must careful of what we listen to and focus on.  What we give ourselves over to  is what will grow and spread in our daily life and will affect  our life from that point on.  Do we focus on the negative talk at work?  Is it complaining at home? Is it gossip about others? Is it the use of mankind’s traditions and laws over God’s commands and principles?  All of this is like yeast, it can spoil, grow and spread or enhance, grow and spread.

Yeast in a friendship bread starter will double in size and what originally would make one loaf of bread will now make four loaves.  A friend buried hers and it grew in the soil pushing up the dirt!

Do we have eyes and see, ears and hear?  Do we understand?  Let God’s Word, His principles and commands grow and spread within us and within our lives, thoughts and actions.  Use His Word to push away the yeast that spoils. Philippians 4:8 NLT – And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.  Breath prayer – Lord help me think on things that are excellent and worthy of praise.  –Let His Word be active and alive in us.
