Commissioned…

For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through the endurance taught in the Scriptures and the encouragement they provide we might have hope. Romans

Ezra 8:24-30

Then I set apart twelve of the leading priests: Sherebiah, Hashabiah, and ten of their kinsmen with them.  And I weighed out to them the silver and the gold and the vessels, the offering for the house of our God that the king and his counselors and his lords and all Israel there present had offered.   I weighed out into their hand 650 talents of silver, and silver vessels worth 200 talents, and 100 talents of gold, 20 bowls of gold worth 1,000 darics, and two vessels of fine bright bronze as precious as gold. And I said to them, “You are holy to the LORD, and the vessels are holy, and the silver and the gold are a freewill offering to the LORD, the God of your fathers.  Guard them and keep them until you weigh them before the chief priests and the Levites and the heads of fathers’ houses in Israel at Jerusalem, within the chambers of the house of the LORD.” So the priests and the Levites took over the weight of the silver and the gold and the vessels, to bring them to Jerusalem, to the house of our God.

Commissioned.  Holy before God and men and entrusted with the care of the resources given toward the work of the restoration of God’s house.  They picked up the charge and executed it according to the trust placed in them.

We, too, are commissioned.  Have we picked it up and executed the charge we were given?  Has God’s trust and the trust of our fellow believers born fruit through our efforts;  are we “good and faithful” servants?

Commissioned…

Acts 22:11-21

And since I could not see for the glory of that light, being led by the hand of those who were with me, I came into Damascus.

“Then a certain Ananias, a devout man according to the law, having a good testimony with all the Jews who dwelt there,  came to me; and he stood and said to me, ‘Brother Saul, receive your sight.’ And at that same hour I looked up at him. Then he said, ‘The God of our fathers has chosen you that you should know His will, and see the Just One, and hear the voice of His mouth.  For you will be His witness to all men of what you have seen and heard.  And now why are you waiting? Arise and be baptized, and wash away your sins, calling on the name of the Lord.’

“Now it happened, when I returned to Jerusalem and was praying in the temple, that I was in a trance and saw Him saying to me, ‘Make haste and get out of Jerusalem quickly, for they will not receive your testimony concerning Me.’ So I said, ‘Lord, they know that in every synagogue I imprisoned and beat those who believe on You.  And when the blood of Your martyr Stephen was shed, I also was standing by consenting to his death, and guarding the clothes of those who were killing him.’ Then He said to me, ‘Depart, for I will send you far from here to the Gentiles.’”

Paul received his assignment and was faithful to complete it.  God has his chosen ones, to do his will, and we are to be a witness to all of what we have seen and heard.  We are commissioned to share what we receive with those who will listen.  God has his chosen who need to hear what he has for them.  It is not his will that any should perish, it is our responsibility to share the word for how can they receive if they cannot hear it.  We who receive are his messengers, messengers not of what we were but of what he can do, the change and love he can bring into their lives.
