Psalm 11

To the choirmaster. Of David. In the LORD I take refuge; how can you say to my soul, “Flee like a bird to your mountain,

for behold, the wicked bend the bow; they have fitted their arrow to the string to shoot in the dark at the upright in heart;

if the foundations are destroyed, what can the righteous do?”

The LORD is in his holy temple; the LORD’s throne is in heaven; his eyes see, his eyelids test the children of man.

The LORD tests the righteous, but his soul hates the wicked and the one who loves violence.

Let him rain coals on the wicked; fire and sulfur and a scorching wind shall be the portion of their cup.

For the LORD is righteous; he loves righteous deeds; the upright shall behold his face.

If the foundations are destroyed …are we not as a nation in the process of destroying our foundations? There is a steady flow of denying God as our refuge and a turning to our own abilities and strengths. To be sure those abilities and strengths are from God for all things come from him. The danger to us is in the denial of who he is and what he does. As a nation we move from God as our basis for all things to mankind as the basis for all things; or nature as the basis for all things. How we view life and all it encompasses is crucial to the quality of life. Remove the foundations and the building collapses into rubble; something no longer of use, needing to be cleaned up. For many, the removal of God has caused their life to collapse into rubble and the joy of living is gone.

“…if the foundations are destroyed, what can the righteous do?”

Whatever mankind does, God remains. For those of us who guard our heart, keep the mind of Christ, continue to place our faith and trust in our Creator, life retains its joy regardless of the circumstances around us. He is our refuge; he walks and talks with us. Adonai is in His holy temple. Know not that you are his temple? He lives in us.

“…The LORD is in his holy temple…”

Where will we run to? To whom will we run?

“…In the LORD I take refuge; how can you say to my soul, “Flee like a bird to your mountain,…”

God is righteous; we possess that righteousness and we will see him.

For the LORD is righteous; he loves righteous deeds; the upright shall behold his face.

Psalm 10

Why, O LORD, do you stand far away? Why do you hide yourself in times of trouble?

In arrogance the wicked hotly pursue the poor; let them be caught in the schemes that they have devised.

For the wicked boasts of the desires of his soul, and the one greedy for gain curses and renounces the LORD.

In the pride of his face the wicked does not seek him; all his thoughts are, “There is no God.”

His ways prosper at all times; your judgments are on high, out of his sight; as for all his foes, he puffs at them.

He says in his heart, “I shall not be moved; throughout all generations I shall not meet adversity.”

His mouth is filled with cursing and deceit and oppression; under his tongue are mischief and iniquity.

 He sits in ambush in the villages; in hiding places he murders the innocent. His eyes stealthily watch for the helpless;

he lurks in ambush like a lion in his thicket; he lurks that he may seize the poor; he seizes the poor when he draws him into his net.

The helpless are crushed, sink down, and fall by his might.

He says in his heart, “God has forgotten, he has hidden his face, he will never see it.”

Arise, O LORD; O God, lift up your hand; forget not the afflicted.

Why does the wicked renounce God and say in his heart, “You will not call to account”?

But you do see, for you note mischief and vexation, that you may take it into your hands; to you the helpless commits himself; you have been the helper of the fatherless.

Break the arm of the wicked and evildoer; call his wickedness to account till you find none.

The LORD is king forever and ever; the nations perish from his land.

O LORD, you hear the desire of the afflicted; you will strengthen their heart; you will incline your ear

to do justice to the fatherless and the oppressed, so that man who is of the earth may strike terror no more.

The wicked then and now remain and are the same. The deeds are the same. The oppression and poverty remain.

His mouth is filled with cursing and deceit and oppression; under his tongue are mischief and iniquity.

 He sits in ambush in the villages; in hiding places he murders the innocent. His eyes stealthily watch for the helpless;

he lurks in ambush like a lion in his thicket; he lurks that he may seize the poor; he seizes the poor when he draws him into his net.

The helpless are crushed, sink down, and fall by his might.

Therefore the prayer remains and is just as effective.

The LORD is king forever and ever; the nations perish from his land.

There is no God is heard throughout the land accompanied by a push to remove all evidence in our language of His existence.

In the pride of his face the wicked does not seek him; all his thoughts are, “There is no God.”

Why does the wicked renounce God and say in his heart, “You will not call to account”?

The remnant of his people who believe remains. This said, let us pray with the psalmist and we will see the same results. God is NOT dead and he has not changed; nor is he hidden.

Believers, do we believe what we pray?  Our weapons are not weapons made by human hands.  Our weapons are weapons of the spirit and we are able to defend those who face the persecution perpetrated by the evil one.  We stand in the gap and fight for them with our prayers.  Raise the swords of prayer in their defense.  Pray and when we pray, believe!

Pray:   Break the arm of the wicked and evildoer; call his wickedness to account till you find none.

The LORD is king forever and ever; the nations perish from his land.

O LORD, you hear the desire of the afflicted; you will strengthen their heart; you will incline your ear

to do justice to the fatherless and the oppressed, so that man who is of the earth may strike terror no more.

Psalm 9

To the choirmaster: according to Muth-labben. A Psalm of David. I will give thanks to the LORD with my whole heart; I will recount all of your wonderful deeds.

I will be glad and exult in you; I will sing praise to your name, O Most High.

When my enemies turn back, they stumble and perish before your presence.

For you have maintained my just cause; you have sat on the throne, giving righteous judgment.

You have rebuked the nations; you have made the wicked perish; you have blotted out their name forever and ever.

The enemy came to an end in everlasting ruins; their cities you rooted out; the very memory of them has perished.

But the LORD sits enthroned forever; he has established his throne for justice,

and he judges the world with righteousness; he judges the peoples with uprightness.

The LORD is a stronghold for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble.

And those who know your name put their trust in you, for you, O LORD, have not forsaken those who seek you.

Sing praises to the LORD, who sits enthroned in Zion! Tell among the peoples his deeds!

For he who avenges blood is mindful of them; he does not forget the cry of the afflicted.

Be gracious to me, O LORD! See my affliction from those who hate me, O you who lift me up from the gates of death,

that I may recount all your praises, that in the gates of the daughter of Zion I may rejoice in your salvation.

The nations have sunk in the pit that they made; in the net that they hid, their own foot has been caught.

The LORD has made himself known; he has executed judgment; the wicked are snared in the work of their own hands. Higgaion. Selah.

The wicked shall return to Sheol, all the nations that forget God.

For the needy shall not always be forgotten, and the hope of the poor shall not perish forever.

Arise, O LORD! Let not man prevail; let the nations be judged before you!

Put them in fear, O LORD! Let the nations know that they are but men! Selah.

A portion of this, though written many years prior to Christ could be His words:

Be gracious to me, O LORD! See my affliction from those who hate me, O you who lift me up from the gates of death,

Those who suffer today the same afflictions, at the hands of terrorists, those who hate the believers for their belief in Christ, will sing with Christ and David this song of deliverance. God does not desert his children; he is there with us.

Psalm 8

To the choirmaster: according to The Gittith. A Psalm of David. O LORD, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory above the heavens.

Out of the mouth of babies and infants, you have established strength because of your foes, to still the enemy and the avenger.

When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place,

what is man that you are mindful of him, and the son of man that you care for him?

Yet you have made him a little lower than the heavenly beings and crowned him with glory and honor.

You have given him dominion over the works of your hands; you have put all things under his feet,

all sheep and oxen, and also the beasts of the field,

the birds of the heavens, and the fish of the sea, whatever passes along the paths of the seas.

O LORD, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!

Who is God? Who is man? What can God do? What can man do? The psalmist knows. God is glorious, righteous, majestic, known throughout all the earth. Are we the only ones who know him? Would we be so bold? Man is part of creation, a creature not the creator…selah…given the charge of dominion over creation, in stature only a little lower than the angels.

Psalm 8:5 For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels, and hast crowned him with glory and honour.

God creates, gives charge, sets in place, concerns himself with mankind, does not create and walk way…selah. Mankind does what God gives him to do for God knows his creation and what they are capable of doing.

God is who he says he is. God can do what he says he can do. We are who God says we are. We can do all things through Christ.

Establish righteousness O God…

Psalm 7

A Shiggaion of David, which he sang to the LORD concerning the words of Cush, a Benjaminite. O LORD my God, in you do I take refuge; save me from all my pursuers and deliver me,

lest like a lion they tear my soul apart, rending it in pieces, with none to deliver.

O LORD my God, if I have done this, if there is wrong in my hands,

if I have repaid my friend with evil or plundered my enemy without cause,

let the enemy pursue my soul and overtake it, and let him trample my life to the ground and lay my glory in the dust. Selah.

Arise, O LORD, in your anger; lift yourself up against the fury of my enemies; awake for me; you have appointed a judgment.

Let the assembly of the peoples be gathered about you; over it return on high.

The LORD judges the peoples; judge me, O LORD, according to my righteousness and according to the integrity that is in me.

Oh, let the evil of the wicked come to an end, and may you establish the righteous— you who test the minds and hearts, O righteous God!

My shield is with God, who saves the upright in heart.

God is a righteous judge, and a God who feels indignation every day.

If a man does not repent, God will whet his sword; he has bent and readied his bow;

he has prepared for him his deadly weapons, making his arrows fiery shafts.

Behold, the wicked man conceives evil and is pregnant with mischief and gives birth to lies.

He makes a pit, digging it out, and falls into the hole that he has made.

His mischief returns upon his own head, and on his own skull his violence descends.

I will give to the LORD the thanks due to his righteousness, and I will sing praise to the name of the LORD, the Most High.

God is a righteous judge who: holds anger at evil, expects repentance, allows the wicked to fall into their own trap. Let the evil of the wicked come to an end. We can join with one another through prayer and effect change in our world for we have the collective power of what God has given to us. Let the evil of the wicked come to an end let them fall into their own traps.

Joshua 24:14-29

“Now therefore fear the LORD and serve him in sincerity and in faithfulness. Put away the gods that your fathers served beyond the River and in Egypt, and serve the LORD.

And if it is evil in your eyes to serve the LORD, choose this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your fathers served in the region beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.”

Then the people answered, “Far be it from us that we should forsake the LORD to serve other gods,

for it is the LORD our God who brought us and our fathers up from the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery, and who did those great signs in our sight and preserved us in all the way that we went, and among all the peoples through whom we passed.

And the LORD drove out before us all the peoples, the Amorites who lived in the land. Therefore we also will serve the LORD, for he is our God.”

But Joshua said to the people, “You are not able to serve the LORD, for he is a holy God. He is a jealous God; he will not forgive your transgressions or your sins.

If you forsake the LORD and serve foreign gods, then he will turn and do you harm and consume you, after having done you good.”

And the people said to Joshua, “No, but we will serve the LORD.”

Then Joshua said to the people, “You are witnesses against yourselves that you have chosen the LORD, to serve him.” And they said, “We are witnesses.”

He said, “Then put away the foreign gods that are among you, and incline your heart to the LORD, the God of Israel.”

And the people said to Joshua, “The LORD our God we will serve, and his voice we will obey.”

Another translation states: “…we will pay attention to what he says.” Are we paying attention? Do we realize God is the same yesterday, today and forever? Are we paying attention to only the blessings and forgetting the penalties and consequences for turning aside? Have we allowed other “gods” to encroach on our devotion to God Almighty? Do we believe what God says? If so, it will be evident in our lives. Are we an embarrassment to God or can He look on us with pride and approval?  Let us make our plans but commit our ways to Him!
