For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through the endurance taught in the Scriptures and the encouragement they provide we might have hope. Romans
Comments, thoughts and reflections welcome.
This is a copy of the letter that Tattenai the governor of the province Beyond the River and Shethar-bozenai and his associates, the governors who were in the province Beyond the River, sent to Darius the king. They sent him a report, in which was written as follows: “To Darius the king, all peace. Be it known to the king that we went to the province of Judah, to the house of the great God. It is being built with huge stones, and timber is laid in the walls. This work goes on diligently and prospers in their hands. Then we asked those elders and spoke to them thus: ‘Who gave you a decree to build this house and to finish this structure?’ We also asked them their names, for your information, that we might write down the names of their leaders. And this was their reply to us: ‘We are the servants of the God of heaven and earth, and we are rebuilding the house that was built many years ago, which a great king of Israel built and finished. But because our fathers had angered the God of heaven, he gave them into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, the Chaldean, who destroyed this house and carried away the people to Babylonia. However, in the first year of Cyrus king of Babylon, Cyrus the king made a decree that this house of God should be rebuilt.
Second chances? Perhaps. When we rise up and take a stand for God’s ways He grants us favor in even the most unlikely places. He does so for his own glory and so that the work he started through us may be completed. We are blessed and prosper when we find ourselves in his grace and forgiveness. We are doubly blessed when we stand for Him and do His work and will. So much of what we find in scripture is about attitude and mental stability in Christ. We cannot lose the focus and fact that we answer to the One who created us, and ultimately, Him alone.
“…’We are the servants of the God of heaven and earth,…”
When we truly realize this and own the truth that He is who He says He is and He does what He says He will, all others around us fade in comparison. It matters not whether it is the authority from the top or the authority on the job or the authority in the home and church. All authority comes from the Lord and to Him we answer. How we respect those in leadership here is determined by how we respect Him. Are we one on whom He can depend? Can our boss, family, other relationships count on us? Are we one whom He would be willing to invest in? Would our employer, family, other relationships? There is a connection between how we relate to our Lord and how we will relate to those around us. It begins with Him. He then gives the grace and favor to make our way with others right.
