It is time…to sow seeds of righteousness

For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through the endurance taught in the Scriptures and the encouragement they provide we might have hope. Romans

Comments, thoughts and reflections welcome.

Hosea 10:9

“O Israel, you have sinned from the days of Gibeah;

There they stood.

The battle in Gibeah against the children of iniquity

Did not overtake them.

When it is My desire, I will chasten them.

Peoples shall be gathered against them

When I bind them for their two transgressions.

Ephraim is a trained heifer

That loves to thresh grain;

But I harnessed her fair neck,

I will make Ephraim pull a plow.

Judah shall plow;

Jacob shall break his clods.”

it is time

Sow for yourselves righteousness;

Reap in mercy;

Break up your fallow ground,

For it is time to seek the LORD,

Till He comes and rains righteousness on you.

You have plowed wickedness;

You have reaped iniquity.

You have eaten the fruit of lies,

Because you trusted in your own way,

In the multitude of your mighty men.

Therefore tumult shall arise among your people,

And all your fortresses shall be plundered

As Shalman plundered Beth Arbel in the day of battle—

A mother dashed in pieces upon her children.

Thus it shall be done to you, O Bethel,

Because of your great wickedness.

At dawn the king of Israel

Shall be cut off utterly.

We reap what we sow.  What have we sown?

“…But you have planted wickedness, and you have reaped evil….” from NIV

“…You have plowed wickedness;

You have reaped iniquity….” from NKJV

Children in a school are slain by a gunman who suffers mental illness.  What was sown?  What wickedness brought the harvest of evil in the form of the killing of children?  This is not recent or new;

“…As Shalman devastated Beth Arbel…mothers were dashed to the ground with their children…”from NIV

“…As Shalman plundered Beth Arbel in the day of battle—

A mother dashed in pieces upon her children….” from NKJV

The spoken word of God states:

“…Thus it will happen to you…because your wickedness is great….”

Perhaps it is appropriate to define the wickedness that was planted.  From what has been read so far it would seem to be uppermost,  the arrogance, pride, rejection of God, sacrifice of children, denial of God’s very existence, depending on our own strength.

“… Because you have depended on your own strength and on your many warriors…your fortresses will be destroyed.” from NIV

“…Because you trusted in your own way,

                  In the multitude of your mighty men.

                    Therefore tumult shall arise among your people,

                  And all your fortresses shall be plundered…” from NKJV

What are our fortresses?  Is it the world mind-set that there is no God, the idea that what is accomplished is our own doing, that there is no evil within man, man is basically good?  Really? Basically good men do not mow down unarmed, unprotected children with high powered weapons.  Basically good men do not rape and beat a woman to death on a moving bus. Do we rely on our financial institutions, our governments rather than our God?  When we find ourselves in financial straits where do we go for help?  When the crops fail who is supposed to supplement our loss?  When the whirlwinds destroy our homes and businesses where do we turn for assistance in the rebuilding?  Are we still planting these seeds; why are we surprised at the crop of evil we reap?  Unless we uproot the arrogance, pride and greed in our land, we will continue to reap a harvest of evil.  There is hope; we not only are warned of the crops we will reap we are promised that if we sow for ourselves righteousness, that would be right living according to His word; love the Lord with all your heart, mind, soul, strength and love your neighbor as yourself;

plant seeds of righteousness, hope, love

plant seeds of righteousness, hope, love

“…we will reap the fruit of unfailing love….” from NIV

“…Sow for yourselves righteousness;

                      Reap in mercy;…”  from NKJV

Its is time to seek the Lord.  It is time to acknowledge that He is our source.  It is time to study His word, follow His principles based upon His love, apply them to our daily life-walk.  It is time to honor and respect Him.

“…For it is time to seek the LORD,

Till He comes and rains righteousness on you….”

  1. But it doesn’t end there! What’s blessed about this is the ability to reunite with the Lord God and receives His comfort, peace and healing.
