We reap what we sow…

Hosea 4:1-9

Hear the word of the LORD,

You children of Israel,

For the LORD brings a charge against the inhabitants of the land:

“There is no truth or mercy

Or knowledge of God in the land.

By swearing and lying,

Killing and stealing and committing adultery,

They break all restraint,

With bloodshed upon bloodshed.

Therefore the land will mourn;

And everyone who dwells there will waste away

With the beasts of the field

And the birds of the air;

Even the fish of the sea will be taken away.

 “Now let no man contend, or rebuke another;

For your people are like those who contend with the priest.

Therefore you shall stumble in the day;

The prophet also shall stumble with you in the night;

And I will destroy your mother.

My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.

Because you have rejected knowledge,

I also will reject you from being priest for Me;

Because you have forgotten the law of your God,

I also will forget your children.

 “The more they increased,

The more they sinned against Me;

I will change  their glory  into shame.

They eat up the sin of My people;

They set their heart on their iniquity.

And it shall be: like people, like priest.

So I will punish them for their ways,

And reward them for their deeds.

The first stanza sounds like a description of now, here, today.

“…“There is no truth or mercy

Or knowledge of God in the land.

By swearing and lying,

Killing and stealing and committing adultery,

They break all restraint,

With bloodshed upon bloodshed….”.”

The second stanza is also typical of today; passing the blame to others,  no one taking responsibility for their own actions.

“… “Now let no man contend, or rebuke another;,,,”

The third stanza can be applied to today.  There is a definite lack of knowledge of the true God and His word.  We have become complacent in our own study and are willing to take the word of others.

“…My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.

Because you have rejected knowledge,

I also will reject you from being priest for Me;

Because you have forgotten the law of your God,…”

“…Jeremiah 17:10 NKJV – I, the LORD, search the heart, [I] test the mind, Even to give every man according to his ways, According to the fruit of his doings.

John 5:39 NKJV – “You search the Scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life; and these are they which testify of Me….”

We give them degrees and certificates and say now they are the expert it is only for us to follow their teaching.  Not what the Word says.  Each man is to teach themselves from the word and their own personal conversation with the Lord.

“…1Thessalonians  4:9 NKJV – But concerning brotherly love you have no need that I should write to you, for you yourselves are taught by God to love one another;…”

“…1Thessalonians  5:1 NKJV – But concerning the times and the seasons, brethren, you have no need that I should write to you.

1Thessalonians  5:2 NKJV – For you yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so comes as a thief in the night….”

“…1Corinthians 14:26 NKJV – How is it then, brethren? Whenever you come together, each of you has a psalm, has a teaching, has a tongue, has a revelation, has an interpretation. Let all things be done for edification….”

“…2Timothy  2:15 NKJV – Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

2Timothy  2:19 NKJV – Nevertheless the solid foundation of God stands, having this seal: “The Lord knows those who are His,” and, “Let everyone who names the name of Christ depart from iniquity.”

2Timothy  2:21 NKJV – Therefore if anyone cleanses himself from the latter, he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified and useful for the Master, prepared for every good work….”

Be aware that much that comes from the platforms of the churches in our land today is identical to what existed in the land during Hosea’s time and Jesus’ time.  We are to be alert, knowledgeable as individual believers so that we are not deceived by what is spread from some pulpits.

“…My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.

Because you have rejected knowledge,

I also will reject you from being priest for Me;

Because you have forgotten the law of your God…”

Look closely, this is spoken to the priests of the land who looked, acted and thought no different from the people they were to lead.  “Like people, like priests.”

“…They eat up the sin of My people;

They set their heart on their iniquity.

And it shall be: like people, like priest….”

Jesus said this:  “.. “But you are not willing to come to Me that you may have life.  I do not receive honor from men.  But I know you, that you do not have the love of God in you.  Do not think that I shall accuse you to the Father; there is [one] who accuses you–Moses, in whom you trust.  For if you believed Moses, you would believe Me; for he wrote about Me.  But if you do not believe his writings, how will you believe My words?”.  John 5:40-42,45-47 NKJV

We suffer from the disease of lack of knowledge and this refers to knowledge of God.  We are seeing the results of this disorder today.  The despair in our land has answers for the ‘why’s’ being asked.  This is not the first time this type of despair has visited God’s people.

“…They break all restraint,

With bloodshed upon bloodshed….”

and so;

“…Because you have forgotten the law of your God,

I also will forget your children….”

Reading this last line made my heart ache; I froze as it’s message enveloped me.  Do we think we can do as we please, with no regard for the laws God has set in motion, with no regard for the one who loves us, laying blame on everyone and everything other than ourselves?  Do we think we can continue to conduct ourselves as a nation that willingly kills the unborn child but is appalled at the wanton murder of children in a schoolroom?  There is a piper to be paid.  We are seeing the fruit of the wantonness in our land.  We are repeating history.  This is a call to prayer, reconciliation and restoration with the God who loves us.  Do not be deceived; God did not do this, we did.  Let us hear the call, turn from our ways, fall on our knees and pray.  He promises He will hear and heal.

 And reward them for their deeds.

There is comfort in the knowledge that the innocent rest with Him.
