Humanity-based; temporary at best…

Daniel 11:14-24

“Now in those times many shall rise up against the king of the South. Also, violent men of your people shall exalt themselves in fulfillment of the vision, but they shall fall.  So the king of the North shall come and build a siege mound, and take a fortified city; and the forces  of the South shall not withstand him. Even his choice troops shall have no strength to resist.  But he who comes against him shall do according to his own will, and no one shall stand against him. He shall stand in the Glorious Land with destruction in his power.

“He shall also set his face to enter with the strength of his whole kingdom, and upright ones  with him; thus shall he do. And he shall give him the daughter of women to destroy it; but she shall not stand with him, or be for him.  After this he shall turn his face to the coastlands, and shall take many. But a ruler shall bring the reproach against them to an end; and with the reproach removed, he shall turn back on him.  Then he shall turn his face toward the fortress of his own land; but he shall stumble and fall, and not be found.

“There shall arise in his place one who imposes taxes on the glorious kingdom; but within a few days he shall be destroyed, but not in anger or in battle. And in his place shall arise a vile person, to whom they will not give the honor of royalty; but he shall come in peaceably, and seize the kingdom by intrigue.  With the force of a flood they shall be swept away from before him and be broken, and also the prince of the covenant. And after the league is made with him he shall act deceitfully, for he shall come up and become strong with a small number of people. He shall enter peaceably, even into the richest places of the province; and he shall do what his fathers have not done, nor his forefathers: he shall disperse among them the plunder, spoil, and riches; and he shall devise his plans against the strongholds, but only for a time.

What is to come is spoken of in  detail, enough detail to ensure it can be identified as ‘this is that.’  God gives forewarning of what is to come.  He has not created and walked away.  He has the big picture and shares it.  What do we see?  The depravity of humanity is what we see.  One overarching goal is to be the best with all that entails; the greatest, to have the most wealth, to have all the power; and continually attempting to achieve all that with human means.  Christ said we have all that in Him and it is without inflicting harm or destruction on another.  He said the least shall be greatest, we have life abundant, all power granted under heaven is at our disposal.

Luke 9:48 KJV – And said unto them, Whosoever shall receive this child in my name receiveth me: and whosoever shall receive me receiveth him that sent me: for he that is least among you all, the same shall be great.

John 10:10 NKJV – “The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have [it] more abundantly.

Luke 10:19 NKJV – “Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you.

We do not have need of following the paths of humanity and those who have gone before.  We do not have need to follow those around us, who never have enough of anything.  When we have Christ, we have no need of anything more.  For the believer, the goals have changed.  Where once self-interest was uppermost, now Christ is; where once material gain was a driving force; now helping the poor and downtrodden is; where once owning the power to command was king; now owning the power to overcome and live freely through Christ is supreme.  There is a kingdom to be a part of that is not made of terra firma, material goods, power over fellow humanity.  This kingdom is of the spirit and operates in both worlds with ease and bringing peace to those who enter through Christ.  Our life begins now and continues for eternity in Him.  The kingdom that lasts forever is His.  Blessed be the name of the Lord.
