4 I, Nebuchadnezzar, was at rest in my house, and flourishing in my palace. 5 I saw a dream which made me afraid, and the thoughts on my bed and the visions of my head troubled me. 6 Therefore I issued a decree to bring in all the wise men of Babylon before me, that they might make known to me the interpretation of the dream. 7 Then the magicians, the astrologers, the Chaldeans, and the soothsayers came in, and I told them the dream; but they did not make known to me its interpretation. 8 But at last Daniel came before me (his name is Belteshazzar, according to the name of my god; in him is the Spirit of the Holy God), and I told the dream before him, saying: 9 “Belteshazzar, chief of the magicians, because I know that the Spirit of the Holy God is in you, and no secret troubles you, explain to me the visions of my dream that I have seen, and its interpretation.
18 “This dream I, King Nebuchadnezzar, have seen. Now you, Belteshazzar, declare its interpretation, since all the wise men of my kingdom are not able to make known to me the interpretation; but you are able, for the Spirit of the Holy God is in you.”
This is a letter from the King Nebuchadnezzar to all the people of the then known world. We might look to this letter to see what message it holds for us today. It begins with a dream, given to the king without understanding for understanding comes from the Holy Spirit.
“…John 14:26 “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you….”
“…Proverb 1:7 and 9:10- The fear of the LORD [is] the beginning of knowledge, [But] fools despise wisdom and instruction. …”The fear of the LORD [is] the beginning of wisdom, And the knowledge of the Holy One [is] understanding….”
The spirit of the Holy God is in you. A recognition of the presence and power of God Almighty. The message was sent to King Nebuchadnezzar but he had no understanding for he did not have the Holy Spirit. So the most powerful man of the time sought out the man of God, Daniel for he said the Holy Spirit was in him. No matter the position of power, high or low, no matter the level of education, no matter the social upbringing, when the Holy Spirit resides within us others recognize Him. Are we aware enough of the presence of God within us to allow His presence to be known to others in our daily lives? The Holy Spirit brings knowledge, remembrance and understanding to the believer. O Lord open our eyes and ears that we may know your Presence within us. Then we can share what we have with an unbelieving world.
