Put action to the Word…

Ezekiel 33:30-33

“As for you, son of man, the children of your people are talking about you beside the walls and in the doors of the houses; and they speak to one another, everyone saying to his brother, ‘Please come and hear what the word is that comes from the LORD.’ 31 So they come to you as people do, they sit before you as My people, and they hear your words, but they do not do them; for with their mouth they show much love, but their hearts pursue their own gain. 32 Indeed you are to them as a very lovely song of one who has a pleasant voice and can play well on an instrument; for they hear your words, but they do not do them. 33 And when this comes to pass—surely it will come—then they will know that a prophet has been among them.”

Are we the people, ever listening but never doing? Or, are we the one sharing and people listen but do not put what is  shared into practice?  Where does our responsibility lie?  If we take the position of those who listen to the words spoken by  God, are we just listening or do we take heed and make any changes that may be needed?  He works within us but we must be willing. Or are we faithful to share what is given to us, no matter whether it is followed or not?  In either case, are we doing as well as listening?  Are we putting action to what we hear and deliver?

Can we see the priest or preacher standing before the people in any service or gathering?  The people sit and listen and say how good it was then go back to their daily living unchanged, living as usual.  What does it take for the words to become actions?  This passage indicates the words never became actions and judgment fell.

“…And when this comes to pass—surely it will come—then they will know that a prophet has been among them.”…”

When that occurred, they remembered the words and realized the prophet was with them.  Jesus came, spoke, giving us words of life, died for our sins and rose for our life.  Do we sit and listen and then get up, unchanged, return to our daily living as usual?  Or do we sit and listen and accept the message and propitiation, leave a new creature giving light to a dark world?
