Take heed…

News of Judgment

Ezekiel 30:13-19

‘Thus says the Lord GOD:

“I will also destroy the idols,

And cause the images to cease from Noph; [fn3]

There shall no longer be princes from the land of Egypt;

I will put fear in the land of Egypt.

14 I will make Pathros desolate,

Set fire to Zoan,

And execute judgments in No. [fn4]

15 I will pour My fury on Sin, [fn5] the strength of Egypt;

I will cut off the multitude of No,

16 And set a fire in Egypt;

Sin shall have great pain,

No shall be split open,

And Noph shall be in distress daily.

17 The young men of Aven [fn6] and Pi Beseth shall fall by the sword,

And these cities shall go into captivity.

18 At Tehaphnehes [fn7] the day shall also be darkened, [fn8]

When I break the yokes of Egypt there.

And her arrogant strength shall cease in her;

As for her, a cloud shall cover her,

And her daughters shall go into captivity.

19 Thus I will execute judgments on Egypt,

Then they shall know that I am the LORD.” ’ ”

This is mournful poetry, a detailed account of the demise of a world power who said  they were a power and great by their own doing.  They were full of pride and their confidence lay in their own abilities.  For this they suffered and lost it all.  We would do well to take heed.  We have become a stiff-necked people full of ourselves.  We like to boast of what we have accomplished and make great plans for the future based upon our own strengths and abilities.  We have begun as a nation to reject the provision of God and deny not only His part in who we have become but also his very existence.  We would do well to take the warning given here.  God is not mocked,

“…Galatians  6:7  Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap….”

neither is his hand shortened.

“…Isaiah 59:1 and 2 Behold, the LORD’s hand is not shortened, That it cannot save; Nor His ear heavy, That it cannot hear.
But your iniquities have separated you from your God; And your sins have hidden [His] face from you, So that He will not hear….”

As believers we must continue to spread his word, we must continue to be a living example of his existence, we must continue to share his message of mercy and salvation.  Blessed be the name of the Lord.

  1. Beautiful post, Gracie! Salvation history is a story of mankind turning away from God’s goodness in their arrogance; their subsequent fall into bondage — the misery of sin; God’s paternal rebuke AND his merciful, saving hand delivering the repentant from their misery. Blessed be the name of the Lord!

  2. Gracie, this is powerful! The worst thing is that society has started to deny the existence of God. You’re so right to say that we have to continue to share his message of mercy and salvation.
