Be aware…

Romans 1:18-25

For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, because what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them.  For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse, because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened.  Professing to be wise, they became fools, and changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like corruptible man—and birds and four-footed animals and creeping things.

Therefore God also gave them up to uncleanness, in the lusts of their hearts, to dishonor their bodies among themselves, who exchanged the truth of God for the lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.

Paul gives a clear description of the condition of mankind.  He begins by stating the wrath of God is revealed, then gives a description of the reason for that wrath.  He also gives no leniency to mankind for not recognizing their creator for he states the evidence is in the creation itself.  “His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made,” However the lack of acknowledging God, who he is and what he does has consequences.  “God also gave them up to uncleanness, in the lusts of their hearts, to dishonor their bodies among themselves,”  This description is so point on as a description of the unbelieving world we live in.  We see it in the actions of individuals and crowds around us, we hear it in the conversations around us and in the news, we note it in the changes in the laws in our land.  Our take away is to be aware.  Be aware of the futility of the thinking of mankind apart from God.  Be aware of the foolishness of their hearts, “futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened. “  Be aware and do not be deceived.  This “futile thinking and foolishness of hearts, this darkness” creeps in slowly until we have bought into the same manners as those around us who do not believe.  At that point, we have exchanged the righteousness of God for the unrighteousness of mankind. “who exchanged the truth of God for the lie,”  There is a warning to be aware, alert and more, be close to the one who created us.  Be careful to always give him thanks, always bless his name.  Stay immersed in His word, filled with His Spirit, living in his truth. Bless the Lord, o my soul, and forget not His benefits.
