The Journey Continues; Why believe?

Romans 1:1-7

Paul, a bondservant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, separated to the gospel of God which He promised before through His prophets in the Holy Scriptures, concerning His Son Jesus Christ our Lord, who was born of the seed of David according to the flesh, and declared to be the Son of God with power according to the Spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead. Through Him we have received grace and apostleship for obedience to the faith among all nations for His name, among whom you also are the called of Jesus Christ;

To all who are in Rome, beloved of God, called to be saints:

Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

Paul points out the basis for believing that Jesus is the Christ promised by God, through his prophets, who was to come bringing salvation to his creation, redeeming them back into a personal relationship with him as was in the beginning.  Think of the privilege it was to walk with God in a garden He had prepared for us, visiting, communing with Him in the cool of the evening.  What a wonderful time to look forward to.  We can begin to get a taste of that as we set aside a time for Him, and walk with Him, listening to His voice, learning from Him, responding to that great love of His and then taking on the day sharing what we receive with others.

Two things are noted by Paul as a start to this letter that intends to give the basis for believing that Jesus is the Christ.  One is the human nature of Jesus, that he was a descendant of David as was foretold by the prophets.  The second is the divine nature of Jesus that was proven to us through the witness of the Holy Spirit, the power of his works and his resurrection from the dead.  What does this mean for us, today?  We are being called to obedience to faith, we are being called to believe in the existence of Jesus Christ and accept the salvation that is offered through his death and resurrection, buying, redeeming us back into that original plan.  We are being called to belong to Jesus Christ.  We have been on a journey to know Jesus better, who he was and is and what he did and does.  This journey continues as we study the words of instruction he gave to his disciples and apostles.  The Spirit is with us, a gift to bring remembrance and understanding.  We continue to study with Paul the basis for Christ’s existence and ours.  So with Paul, we will accept the call and see what God has for us through the Holy Spirit’s instruction.  2 Timothy 3:16  -” All Scripture [is] given by inspiration of God, and [is] profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, …”  Why?  What is our purpose for the study of Scripture?  17 -“that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work. “ The answer then is that we may be complete, this is a process, and that we may be equipped. We want to complete the task He has given us and we want to do it well.  So let us sit at his feet and learn of His wisdom.

Sing to the LORD, all the earth; Proclaim the good news of His salvation from day to day.

Declare His glory among the nations, His wonders among all peoples. – 2 Chronicles

Say to one another, Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

  1. “Sit at His feet and learn His wisdom.” You know Gracie, I have never sat at the feet of Christ. Really has never dawned on me to do so. I think we need that and need to do it. How many times we as mothers had the most enjoyable conversations with our children sitting at our feet? I am sure it would be the same with Christ. Love the picture! God Bless, SR
