Knowing, not knowing of…

John 17:1-5

Jesus spoke these words, lifted up His eyes to heaven, and said: “Father, the hour has come. Glorify Your Son, that Your Son also may glorify You, as You have given Him authority over all flesh, that He should give eternal life to as many as You have given Him. And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent. I have glorified You on the earth. I have finished the work which You have given Me to do. And now, O Father, glorify Me together with Yourself, with the glory which I had with You before the world was.

This is eternal life: that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ  whom you have sent.  Knowing…from its beginning , or the awareness of it, to its what? There is no end, it is eternal.  Knowing what? Knowing the true God and Jesus Christ his son.  Knowing rather than knowing of.  We can know of people in the news.  We can know of their thoughts, actions, even beliefs; but we don’t know them unless we have a relationship with them that involves both of us.  Unless the knowing is reciprocal.  When we meet someone for the first time; someone we have read of or heard about, it is often said, ‘I feel as if I know you.’  The real know doesn’t occur until there is communication, contact and the development of a relationship.  We can know God and Jesus Christ his son that way.  The knowing becomes a relationship, is reciprocal and is eternal.  He knew us first…

 Knowing

 Hearing your voice

Seeing your works

Receiving your love

Returning that love

Drawn to you

Warmth in your embrace

Never let this end

Always to see your face

Always to hear your voice

Always to do your work

Always to love

Always…
