Choose to believe…

Luke 1:46-53

 And Mary said,

“My soul magnifies the Lord,

and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior,

for he has looked on the humble estate of his servant.

For behold, from now on all generations will call me blessed;

for he who is mighty has done great things for me,

and holy is his name.

And his mercy is for those who fear him

from generation to generation.

He has shown strength with his arm;

he has scattered the proud in the thoughts of their hearts;

 he has brought down the mighty from their thrones

and exalted those of humble estate;

he has filled the hungry with good things,

and the rich he has sent away empty.

He has helped his servant Israel,

in remembrance of his mercy,

 as he spoke to our fathers,

to Abraham and to his offspring forever.”

 And Mary remained with her about three months and returned to her home

 Though Mary finds herself in a position that could be seen as shameful she believes God.  Her only witness to the reason for her condition is an angel.  Yet Elizabeth is moved by the Holy Spirit and given revelation also as to the presence of God in Mary’s life in the form  of His son.  Mary’s faith in God, her relationship with Him is built on trust.  Trust that what He says is so.  She accepts the message given to her in the same spirit that Abraham received his and acted upon it.  She believes. That’s it. Her choice to believe brings her joy and vision.

 In her song is a recounting of the things God has done, her remembering of the promises He has kept and continues to keep.  This builds her faith that what He has spoken to her is truth.  Mary had  knowledge of God, who He is and what He does.  We can have that same knowledge.  We have His Word, we can become familiar with the things he has done.  Sit at His feet and listen as He tells His story, as He reminds us of His promises. Listen to His Words and learn of Him.  We will be reminded of who it is we belong to, whose name we carry.  Believe God.  2 Chronicles 7:14  if my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.
